SOUTH African authorities have had their hands full ever since former president Jacob Zuma was incarcerated last week for contempt of court with crowds taking to the streets in violent protests.
More than 25 trucks were set alight in KwaZulu-Natal, as protesters calling for the release of Zuma from prison ramped up their campaign on Friday night.
Mobilising under the banner of ‘Free Jacob Zuma’, the supporters of the former president have been blockading major highways and intersections in the province since last Thursday after he checked into the nearby Estcourt Correctional Services Centre to start serving his 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court.
