. . . pleasingly, national vaccine uptake surges
BOTH the government and health experts are optimistic that the arrival of more coronavirus vaccines in Zimbabwe will help to curb the spread of the lethal disease and also facilitate key economic activities in the country.
Importantly, health experts also said yesterday that a concerted vaccination blitz by authorities would help the country to minimise the chances of another major wave of the virulent respiratory disease going forward.
This comes after another 56 locals lost their lives to the lethal disease on Thursday alone.
It also comes as Zimbabwe is set to receive 3,5 million more Covid-19 jabs in the next three weeks, on top of the two million shots that were delivered to the country on Thursday as authorities fight to achieve national herd immunity by end of this year.
Among the health experts who expressed the hope yesterday that the availability of more vaccines would significantly reduce fatalities was the president of the Zimbabwe Doctors for Human Rights (ZDHR), Norman Matara, who also said the interest now being shown by citizens towards the vaccines was encouraging.
